After the resounding success of the 2023 edition, the summer along the Han River is set to dazzle once again with the return of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival – DIFF 2024, organized by the Da Nang People’s Committee in collaboration with the Sun Group.
The location for DIFF 2024 will remain the same as in 2023, covering the Han River Port area (firing site) and the sidewalk area of Tran Hung Dao Street (artistic performances).
DIFF 2024 is expected to feature 8 participating teams, including 7 international teams from countries such as France, Italy, the United States, Germany, Poland, China, Finland, and the Da Nang team representing Vietnam. This means that next year, there will be 3 newcomers from the United States, Germany, and China participating in the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival.
The program for DIFF 2024 will follow the same structure as the previous year, with 5 competition nights, including 4 qualifying nights and one final night. The opening night is scheduled for June 8, with subsequent fireworks displays on every Saturday night in the following weeks (with a break one week before the final night). The DIFF 2024 final night is expected to take place on July 13.
Each night, the teams will have 20 minutes to showcase themed fireworks displays agreed upon by the organizing committee. While the overall theme for DIFF 2024 is still under consideration, the leadership of Da Nang City emphasizes that the festival will convey a message of a peaceful, just, harmonious, and humane society.
The 2023 edition of DIFF significantly boosted tourism in Da Nang, achieving growth figures beyond expectations after the impact of Covid-19. In the first 6 months of the year, the total number of guests accommodated in Da Nang reached over 3.5 million, a 116.6% increase compared to the same period in 2022. International visitors accounted for 930,000, an 11.3-fold increase, while domestic visitors reached nearly 2.6 million, a 67.7% increase.
During the DIFF period, flights to Da Nang International Airport increased to up to 150 flights per day, 1.5 times higher than usual. The city’s room occupancy rate reached approximately 70%, with 4-5 star hotels achieving 80-85% occupancy. This represents growth compared to the 2019 DIFF period when the room occupancy rate in the city was 65-70%, and 4-5 star hotels had an occupancy rate of 75-85%.
2024 will mark the 12th year of DIFF being held in Da Nang. The first Da Nang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) took place on March 29, 2008, commemorating the liberation of the city. It was the first time residents and tourists witnessed a fireworks display synchronized with music. In 2017, the city renamed the competition as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), with the organization’s budget being socialized, sponsored, and co-organized by the Sun Group. Throughout this journey, the DIFF International Fireworks Festival has become a highlight, making the Han River city the focal point of festivities every summer.
